Course Structure- A total of 1600 weighting points comprising:
- 140 core weighting points listed on https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/UEE50520 ; plus
- 1460 general elective weighting points from the general elective units listed on https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/UEE50520.
- Choose a total of 1460 weighting points elective units from the list on https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/UEE50520, of which between 0 and 270 weighting points can be taken from Group A; and between 0 and 920 weighting points must be taken from Group B; and between 260 and 580 weighting points must be taken from Group C; and between 280 and 1200 weighting points must be taken from Group D;
- Up to 270 weighting points of the general elective units Group A listed on https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/UEE50520, may be selected, with appropriate contextualisation, from any relevant nationally endorsed Training Package or accredited course, provided selected units contribute to the vocational outcome of the qualification.

Entry Requirements
Age requirements:
Students must be above 18 years of age while filling up the application form.
Academic Requirements:
To enter into this course delivered at TEDI, applicants should have successfully completed year 12 or senior secondary studies in applicant’s home country equivalent to Australian senior secondary school examination.

Mature Age students will also be considered without the minimum education requirements considering they have relevant work experience within the chosen area of study and a demonstrated capacity to meet the course requirements. A minimum of 2 years’ experience would normally be expected; however, each case will be reviewed individually with relevant work experience evidence in the form of an employment reference letter on company letterhead, work samples and curriculum vitae submitted will be considered. Such learner will be accessed for possible RPL opportunities and their course duration and volume of learning will be adjusted accordingly, if any RPL is granted.
English Language Requirements for International students:
International students applying for this course either off-shore or on-shore will require:
- Either a minimum IELTS test score of 6.0 or equivalent for direct entry into a VET course.
or, IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 10 weeks) to be taken before the main VET course;
or, IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 20 weeks) to be taken before the main VET course;
Note: Results older than two years are not acceptable.
or, Oxford Placement test with score 61 or higher.
Score Guide: Average test score of 61 or higher in Oxford placement test is equivalent to IELTS 5.5.
Students may refer to IELTS 5.5 equivalent policy for further information available at reception.
OR
- to provide evidence that they have studied in English for at least five years in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, or United States.
OR
- to provide evidence that, within two years* of their signed written agreement date, they have successfully completed in Australia a foundation course or a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education or a substantial part of a Certificate IV or higher-level qualification, from the Australian Qualifications Framework.
*The date when TEDI receives the signed written agreement (either through email or in hand)

Language, Literacy and Numeracy test (LLN):
Students undertaking this course at TEDI must possess sound Numeracy skills since it requires them to do calculations or any other course related work. To determine this, all students wanting to study at TEDI are required to undertake LLN Test prior to the commencement of the course. Based on the test outcome, students may be identified as requiring internal support services and/or external support services.
LLN test will be conducted on campus by using an ACSF mapped online LLN assessment tool - LLN Robot - under the supervision of qualified LLN assessor.
Students will be required to undertake language, literacy and numeracy test (LLN) test and achieve expected performance level of ACSF level 4 for UEE50520 - Diploma of Electronics and Communications Engineering. Refer to TEDI’s Enrolment Kit and/or students Handbook for detailed information.
Computer literacy requirements
Students enrolling into this course must have basic computer skills. Student are required to fill in the questions related to computer and internet skills in the Pre-Training Review form provided along with the application form.
Students who do not possess basic computing skills will be provided with basic computer using support. Students can contact TEDI for any further information or assistance on 03 8725 2061.
Materials and Equipment Required
TEDI will provide access to computers with required resources including access to internet during classroom hours, however, to work on assignments and tasks for self-study, all students are expected to have access to a laptop or computer with the Windows 7 operating system or higher. Students must have an active email address for communication and be contactable by phone (mobile or landline) and by mail (postal address).
All learners are expected to have access to MS office application such as Microsoft Word, an email platform.
For practical learning in Electronic (UEE) courses, TEDI will provide access to equipment, including but not limited to, Soldering iron, soldering wire, Multimeter, cable stripper, screw driver kit, Tongs. These equipments are placed in the practical lab which students can use for their practical learning.
Mode of Delivery:
Face to Face theory learning on campus and Practical learning at Institute’s industrial environment “Technical Electronics Centre” located at TEDI's workshop for a minimum 20 hours per week.
